Howard Terpning - Test of Courage

Fire is a force of nature in the West, like the weather and the wind. It is part of the natural
cycle of destruction and renewal. Fire swept the prairie clean and nourished the growth
of new grass when the rains came in the spring.
But there was extreme danger for men and animals who found themselves in the path
of a prairie fire. The depth of their courage would be tested and tried to the limit when
life was on the line in the heat and smoke and good horses, even when blind-folded,
learned a valuable lesson in trust.
