Artist Statement:

“I grew up listening to many stories of our family’s rich pioneering history, with adventures stretching across the country north and south of the border. Ranching, mining, and exploration were themes in these stories and marriages into the First Nations communities created a mix of native traditions as well as old world references. I often reflect on these as sources of inspiration and ideas for paintings.
Although drawing was a favourite pastime during childhood, my early education and much of my adult life was spent working in a technical and industrial environment.    More than 40 years have passed since starting a study of painting and art history in 1970.In spite of endless hours in the studio and thousands of paintings later, I am still driven to pick up a brush and push some paint around, to improve and fulfill what seems to be an ever elusive pursuit.”

Painting

Paintings include both representational and semi-abstract works.
Using oils, acrylics and other water-media, the artist  uses various forming processes and a random or more explorative start in
developing the visual image. A love of paint and creative process is evident in the energized surfaces that result.
“Like the art of short story telling, I enjoy paintings that integrate human activity and surroundings in a visual narrative that
invites the viewer in, to discover and explore, to complete the story or continue the inner journey or experience. All life is an
expression of  spirit or  “light and sound” – a vibration of creative and universal essence.  Call it what you will, we  experience
and express this in daily life through our thoughts, feelings and actions. Painting is but one example of  engaging and
manifesting this creative current .

Through the painting process I hope in some way, to capture or bridge the physical nature  of our outer lives with the
non- visible current that flows through all life. I am continually fascinated by the movement of light, pattern and the
interactive nature of colour that can be explored in developing a painting concept.”
