Patrick LaMontagne moved to Banff in 1994, which makes him a
genuine local. A few years later, he became the editorail cartoonist for the
Banff Crag & Canyon newspaper, launching hi professional career as an
artist. In 2001, he joined the Bow Valley's Rocky Mountain Outlook newspaper
and became nationally syndicated, after moving to Canmore that same year.
In 2009, Patrick painted a cartoony portrait of a Grizzly Bear, inspired by
life in the Canadian Rockies and his great love of animals. Since then, he has
painted whimsical wildlife portraits of creatures from all over the world,
but has a soft spot for those he finds in his own backyard. He has painted
more bears than any other animal.
The detail and brushwork in his digital painting style has often been
mistaken for traditional media, and although he's drawn a lot of different
things over the years, it's these award-winning whimsical wildlife paint-
ings that he enjoys most.
Patrick and his wife Shonna continue their pursuit of happily ever
after in Canmore, surrounded by the beauty of
the Canadian Rockies.
