Max Jacquiard - Myra Canyon

The Carmi Subdivision of Canadian Pacific's Kettle Valley line involved a circuitous
climb from Penticton on Okanagan Lake over the Okanagan highlands and down
into the Kettle Valley near the U.S. border. The summit of the line, some 3000
ft. above Penticton, was in Myra Canyon in the hills southeast of Kelowna. The
railway here wound along the steep sides of this rugged canyon, necessitating
the construction of no fewer than 18 bridges and two tunnels between the
stations of Myra and Ruth. Four trestles are visible in this view from the bridge
at mile 85.6; a fifth is out of sight behind the oncoming train. 5219 was
a coalburning 2-8-2 recently rebuilt from 2-8-0 #3687.

Max Jacquiard has a sizeable research library of printed materials, photos and
slides of steam trains and the places they would have operated. It is that attention
to precise and accurate details that can be seen in his paintings. The sensitivity
to his subject and quiet passion that is infused into each work seem to allow
Max Jaquiard to breath life into the canvases. The images he creates have
captured the imaginations of steam buffs across Canada and the United
States. His paintings grace the walls in homes across North America.
