John Petrella is reputed for his ability to capture the heart and soul
of the scenes featured within each of his images, and to relay that
mood, unencumbered to the appreciative viewer.The accuracy with
which he interprets the natural world through the painted medium
is in part attributable to extensive, and sometimes unconventional,
research techniques.

Past research efforts have included an excursion into the Costa Rican
rain forest to observe hummingbirds, hanging upside down in a tree to
capture a glimpse of a young Great Horned Owl, and abandoning
all equipment in order to run from a pair of startled Bison in
Yellowstone National Park.

In addition to his work being chosen from among that of five hundred
artists for display at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum,
Petrella was named as one of the top one hundred artists worldwide
through the "Arts for the Parks" competition in Jacksonhole,
Wyoming. Petrella was also the featured artist for the
"American Endangered Species Art Show" in Denver, Colorado.
