Red-Tailed Hawk by the Cliff - (Buteo jamaicensis)

"If you look at the distribution map of the red-tailed hawk, you will find it colored from sea to sea
and from Mexico to the Arctic. He is adapted to forests, farmlands, deserts and prairies. Most people
have seen him perched on poles or dead trees, watching the agricultural land for rodents. He is the
farmers' best friend.I am honored to have a resident red-tail that has selected a big oak tree
outside my studio window as his perch. When someone comes out the door, he gives a single,
shrill keeer-r-r and calmly takes wing, soaring down into the valley. It never ceases to
thrill me to look at a flying bird of prey."
