In The Grass Lioness - Panthera leo

"I have painted lions many times. I do this not because I love cats or because
lions are popular. I do it because they have a strong presence, and their
physical shapes have a good sense of abstract

This is one of my earliest serious paintings of a lion, and it is still one of my favorites.
It is not much more than a simple study of a lioness in repose. My goal was to
capture the sense of an individual and particular animal with the quiet confidence
of the so-called “king of the beasts.”
