" As is usually the case in my paintings, I am almost as absorbed by the habitat
as the animal. His gaze is resting on the spectacular and rugged scenery. We can
admire it, but we would expend great time and effort to get around in it. To the bighorn,
it is no problem. Around the ram is a more intimate glimpse of habitat with yucca and
grasses. Desert growth in detail is complex and varied. I enjoyed elaborating on
its patterns and rhythms." - Robert Bateman
